LUKEVILLE, Ariz. — A pregnant woman who was in labor while crossing into the United States from Mexico gave birth at a port of entry.
Customs and Border Protection officers who have emergency medical training delivered the baby boy on Sunday at the Port of Lukeville, near Ajo, Arizona.
Officials say the 20-year-old American citizen arrived at the port from Mexico as a passenger in an SUV and told officers she was nine months pregnant and having contractions.
Officers called an ambulance but were told it would be at least 30 minutes before it arrived, a news release states. The officers moved the woman to a pedestrian waiting area on the U.S. side and she gave birth soon after.
