Memorials set to celebrate life of former Arizona Gov. Raul Castro

PHOENIX — Memorial services were scheduled this week in Nogales, Tucson and
Phoenix to celebrate the life of former Gov. Raul Castro, Arizona’s only
Hispanic governor.
Castro died April 10 at 98. He was an ambassador in three Latin American
countries before and after he served as governor for 21/2 years in the
mid-1970s.
Castro family spokesman James E. Garcia said memorial masses will be held
Friday at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nogales and 2 p.m. at St.
Augustine’s Cathedral in Tucson.
A funeral mass was scheduled 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Basilica in Phoenix,
followed by a memorial service hosted by Gov. Doug Ducey at 11 a.m. Saturday at
the State Capitol.
