PHOENIX — Any model will tell you: it takes a lot of work to be pretty. A major artery of the Phoenix area freeway system will undergo a series of traffic-altering upgrades starting in June.
The Arizona Department of Transportation has planned four projects along U.S. 60 east of Phoenix, all the way to Globe.
The $85 million work includes widening, new lanes and bridge work.
“Improvement projects planned this summer along the U.S. 60 corridor will ultimately enhance safety for motorists,” ADOT Globe district engineer Jesse Gutierrez said in a statement.
One of the projects will be changing a two-lane segment between Phoenix and Superior to a divided four-lane road.
Crews will be scheduled to work varying hours to contain traffic disruptions but unscheduled closures and restrictions were a possibility.
