Heat in Phoenix breaking records in 2015

In the words of singer Rob Thomas, “Man, it’s a hot one.”

Valley residents have uttered similar statements several times already this year, and it’s only April.

The sun has made its presence felt in Phoenix recently, and it made for an unusually hot March.

The National Weather Service Phoenix released a graphic earlier this week that shows just how hot it was over the first three months of 2015.

That means that 2015 is leading not only in average high temperature, but in average low temperature and average daily temperature, too. You’ll likely notice that 2014 comes in second in two of the charts, as well. 1986 is the only other year to show up in all three charts.

Last weekend, Phoenix temperatures surpassed expectations by reaching 95 degrees on Saturday and 97 on Sunday — the latter of which broke a record for March 29. In fact, the last five days of the month all had highs of 95 degrees or above.

It might get slightly better this weekend, as the high at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is projected to be around 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service; but as we’ve seen recently, don’t be surprised to see actual temps eclipse the forecasted highs in the Valley.

We want to hear from you.
