A Tempe hotel was awarded a state-level award for its community service exploits last week.
The Phoenix Marriott Tempe at the Buttes won the Community Service Leader distinction from the Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association.
The hotel caught the eye of the association after donating 348 volunteer hours to the Ronald McDonald House, nearly 300 and $7,400 in donations to Culinary Delights. It also gave 275 volunteer hours to Marriott’s Spirit to Serve program and 175 more to Habitat For Humanity.
Another culinary program run by the hotel’s executive chef selects one local charity per month and donates a portion of proceeds from a special menu set aside for the program. It raised more than $15,000 in 2014.
