Tempe officer kills domestic violence suspect after being stabbed

TEMPE, Ariz. — A Tempe officer was stabbed Tuesday afternoon while responding to a domestic violence call, police said.
A female officer heard a person screaming for help inside an apartment near Scottsdale and Curry roads and entered the home. When the suspect, 26-year-old Matthew A. Metz, allegedly attacked her with a knife, she opened fire.
All three involved were taken to a hospital. Metz later died, Tempe PD confirmed. The police officer assaulted and injured by the suspect was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives continue to investigate.
