PHOENIX — Spring training fans won’t have to worry about missing the first pitch because of freeway construction delays, the Arizona Department of Transportation said Tuesday.
ADOT is adding lanes to both the southbound Loop 101 and eastbound Loop 202 near both Mesa ballparks — Hohokam Stadium near Brown and Center roads and Sloan Park near Rio Salado Parkway and Dobson Road.
“We’re not going to be closing ramps that are closest to the stadiums,” Doug Nintzel said. “We want to make sure that we’re giving fans a chance to access the stadiums. We’re giving them a chance to leave as well. It’s actually in the contracts that the contractors working on these projects will not be restricting the ramps closest to the stadiums.”
The projects are both scheduled for completion in 2016.
Fans are still encouraged to leave early because of game day traffic.
