According to the Phoenix Business Journal, Arizona lost more construction jobs than any other state in 2014 with 4,300.
As the only Western state to actually lose construction jobs last year, Arizona constructions workers have seemed to leave the state for others where there is more work like California or Texas.
The PBJ says according to projections by Mortenson Construction, that trend could continue in 2015.
“I’m concerned about the upswing in costs in the surrounding states. Those in California, Utah and Colorado have been and will continue to pull labor from Arizona,” said Ty Bohlender, chief estimator at Mortenson. “At some point we will be dramatically affected by the depletion of local labor as work picks up again in Arizona.”
