PHOENIX — Thursday’s Universo Football event is set to bring a Latin flare to the Verizon Super Bowl Central fan experience.
“It’s a day dedicated to Latino programming and artists,” Vanessa Nielsen with Urias Communications said.
The event will feature special performances throughout the day. Some of the acts scheduled to perform include Tucson cumbia band Chicha Dust, Phoenix’s Jaleo Band, Cuban-American recording artist Kat Dahlia and Puerto Rican reggaeton musician Wisin.
NFL alumni of Hispanic heritage will be accessible to fans at the Universo Football stage area.
Fans can also visit the Univision Zone featuring a live radio broadcast from Super Bowl Central as well as fan interactive elements from Arizona’s top Spanish-speaking media companies.
In addition, the Mexico: Live It To Believe It interactive experience will allow participants to take part in 360-degree photo opportunities and other high-tech displays.
To wrap a bow on the festivities, PepsiCo will announce the renewal of the PepsiCo Cesar Chavez Latino Scholarship Fund.
Members of the Chavez family will on hand.
Organizers hope this event will showcase the importance of Latino culture to the state of Arizona.
“It’s a huge part of Arizona. I mean, Hispanics are one-third of Arizona’s population,” Nielsen said.
“We are really trying to focus on including all of Arizona’s diverse populations. So, it’s just one part of an overall strategy to make sure all of Arizona’s communities are represented.”
Super Bowl Central, the free, family-event, is located in downtown Phoenix.
