PHOENIX — GoDaddy is trying to free itself from the doghouse Wednesday, after receiving backlash over a puppy ad set to run during the Super Bowl.
The ad, which was released online Tuesday, told the 30-second story of a lost puppy who makes his way home only to be sold by its owner, who rejoiced at his return, then bragged that she sold him through a website she created at the domain giant.
Criticism came fast and furious online from animal lovers, including the SPCA, which pointed out in a tweet that “if you can buy a puppy online and have it shipped to you the next day, it’s likely you’re supporting inhumane breeding.”
