PHOENIX — When it comes to highway safety, one watchdog thinks Arizona is out of control.
“Unfortunately, Arizona is one of the worst states in the country in terms of highway safety laws,” Cathy Chase with the Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety Association said.
Chase feels Arizona lacks 10 essential highway safety laws.
“Some of the weakest seatbelt and motorcycle helmet laws,” she said. “Unfortunately, teen graduated driver licensing laws are really unsafe right now.”
Chase said fatal crashes rose 3 percent in 2013 while they dropped 3 percent nationwide.
Arizona was one of nine states flagged by AHASA for unsafe laws.
