Stack ’em high: Girl Scout cookies going on sale in Arizona

PHOENIX — For the 16th straight year, Dircks Moving and Logistics warehouse on the city’s west side is storing very special boxes — millions of Girl Scout cookies.

The facility near 43rd Avenue and Buckeye Road is keeping safe the goods for 17,000 Girls Scouts from the Arizona Cactus-Pine Council. They’ll begin selling their annual treats on Monday.

The chapter’s goal is to sell 3.4 million packages of cookies in the state over the next six weeks. The Cactus-Pine Council covers the Valley, Flagstaff and surrounding high-country areas.

Super Bowl weekend the girls will each try to sell 49 packages for a total of 75,000. If they succeed, they’ll get into the Guinness Book of World Records.

In addition to big sellers Samoas and Thin Mints, two new flavors have been unveiled this year — Rah Rah Raisin and gluten-free Toffee-tastic.

Kayden Jarnagan, 11, sold 500 boxes last year and will try to top that with a pair of goals in mind.

“We’re donating our gifts of caring, our cookies, to (children’s home) Sunshine Acres in Mesa. We’re just trying to help the kids be happy,” she said.

Michaelina Miller, 14, has been a Girl Scout for 10 years. She sold 300 boxes of cookies last year.

“I’m willing to sell as many cookies as people are willing to buy. As many as I possibly can,” she said.

We want to hear from you.
