PHOENIX — Some Phoenix-area firefighters took it upon themselves to cheer up patients staying in a local children’s hospital.
Using some wood and Christmas lights, the firefighters fashioned a sign reading “hope” across from the main building at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
“It’s for all the kids,” Capt. Ardelle Deliz said. “It’s for all the parents.”
Though the photo garnered a lot of attention this week after the hospital posted it on Facebook, the firefighters at Station No. 5 have been doing similar things for years.
“A few years back, they had a young man that had a terminal disease that was staying there at Phoenix Children’s, and they put the first letter of his name on top of the station,” Deliz said, adding that several other kids received the same treat.
KTAR’s John Roller contributed to this report.
