Scottsdale woman’s house trashed by renters’ wild party

LISTEN: Lesley McGee - Home trashed by partiers

Lesley McGee of Scottsdale thought she was renting her house out to a nice young girl , “about her daughter’s age,” who wanted to throw a dinner party for her mother.

Instead, she now has to repair an estimated $7,500 worth of damage to her property.

The renter threw a massive mansion party for hundreds of people, promoted it on Twitter and even charged $5 admission. McGee said there were underage minors present at well and they all brought their own liquor.

McGee rented her house through Airbnb, a website for people to list and book accommodations around the world. She said she even met with the renter beforehand.

Airbnb released the following statement:

“Over 26 million total guests have stayed on Airbnb to date, and problems with hosts are rare. When they do happen, we work quickly to make things right. We have been in close contact with the host and we’re working to reimburse her under our Host Guarantee program. We have zero tolerance for this behavior in our community. We have banned the guests from Airbnb, and our Trust and Safety team will offer its full assistance to law enforcement in any investigation of this incident.”

Yet she doesn’t hold the company accountable for the damages and said though people are verified through the site, she thinks further steps need to be taken to verify people when renting out homes.

We want to hear from you.
