A few weeks from now, partygoers will be allowed to carry their alcoholic beverages as they walk around Super Bowl Central in downtown Phoenix.
The Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee has been awarded a special event liquor license and will be serving alcohol at the block party and indoor football festival for fans from Jan. 28 until Feb. 1.
The committee’s Devney Preuss said that patrons can buy alcohol at the event and walk the vicinity with it.
“You’ll be wristbanded at the point of sale,” Preuss explained. “We’ll obviously check to see if you’re 21 years of age or older, and then you’ll be able to purchase your cold Bud Light or Budweiser beer and walk throughout the perimeter.”
Attendees may not, however, bring their own alcohol.
“Alcohol cannot enter into the perimeter (from outside of the event) with someone who may have already been drinking, because that would then become our liability,” Preuss said.
Several restaurants near the area have decided to join the event, and will be selling alcohol in special cups signifying that they can be carried throughout the festival.
Preuss said there will be lots of ways to get in to Super Bowl Central.
“We will have upwards of 20 different locations to enter,” she said. “You will go through a quick bag check to make sure that you are not bringing alcohol in with you, as well as other items that we can check for.”
Super Bowl Central will cover a 12-block area in downtown Phoenix.
