Western states rack up hot weather marks for 2014

PHOENIX — Arizona had company in experiencing record warm temperatures last year.
Charlotte Dewey with the National Weather Service said California and Nevada also had their warmest years, according to records that go back 120 years.
Idaho, New Mexico, Oregon and Utah were all between second and fourth warmest, Dewey said.
The average Arizona temperature for 2014 was 62.3 degrees, nearly three degrees above normal. That broke the 2012 record of 62.1.
Phoenix’s average temperature last year was 77.1 degrees, besting the 76.9 degrees set in 1989. Flagstaff had an average temperature of 45 while Tucson was at 72 degrees.
