A new smartphone app has been released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection that provides estimated border wait times to travelers.
“It’s very exciting. We just released the Border Wait Time Mobile app,” said Edith Serrano with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. “It’s user-friendly and free,” she added.
According to U-T San Diego, the app will help with the “significant increase” of northbound vehicle crossings, as much as 20 percent in recent weeks when compared to the same time frame as last year.
The app will tell users “which U.S. ports of entry are closest to their location, how many lanes are open and how long a wait to expect.”
It shows data for 71 U.S. ports of entry on the Mexican and Canadian borders and will also provide wait predictions for pedestrians.
The app is available at Apple’s App Store or Google Play.
