ASU president won’t recommend tuition hike for 2015-16 school year

PHOENIX — Arizona State University President Michael Crow said he won’t propose a tuition increase for in-state students next year.
Crow said the school is in a tuition “freeze” for now and he has asked for another hold on rates, this time for the 2015-16 school year.
“I’m going to be recommending a zero percent tuition increase going forward as I did last year,” Crow said.
The decision was made to help contain costs for students and their families.
“The Arizona economy is still struggling to get back on its feet, (so) we think it’s not the appropriate time (to raise tuition),” Crow said.
The tuition freeze would apply only to undergraduate and graduate students eligible for in-state tuition. The decision on whether to increase or hold tuition rates for out-of-state and international students has yet to be decided.
Crow and the presidents of University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University will make their tuition recommendations in the spring for the 2015-16 school year to the Arizona Board of Regents, which ultimately sets tuition rates.
Both UA and NAU haven’t announced their plans for tuition proposals.
