PHOENIX — It is going to be an all-out travel blitz next week, according to Triple-A of Arizona.

In its 2014 year-end travel forecast, Triple-A predicted nearly two million Arizonans will leave home for the Christmas holiday.

“It is generally going to be an increase in regional-type destinations, so of course, in-state places are popular,” spokesperson Michelle Donati said.

With gas prices falling fast, most people who are traveling will be hitting the road rather than flying, according to Donati.

“We do know that the majority of folks traveling — nearly 90 percent of Arizonans traveling which is about 1.7 million — will be celebrating the holidays with a road trip,” she said.

At the same time, more Arizonans are expected to travel by air compared to 2013.

“Air travel is still strong,” she said. “We’re anticipating about 137,000 Arizonans flying to their destinations. It’s about flat compared to last year, a little bit of an uptick there, but it’s all about the road trip this holiday season according to our forecast.”
