Flagstaff is a significantly smaller college town than Tempe and Tucson, but to Travel + Leisure, the city has certain charms that those towns and others lack.

Noting its beautiful scenery, rich history and historic buildings, the travel guide rated Flagstaff, home to Northern Arizona University, eighth on its list of America’s best college towns.

With the San Francisco Peaks just minutes away, active types can be found skiing the Arizona Snowbowl in winter, then hiking or biking its trails in summer — all reasons why Flagstaff earned the No. 13 ranking for adventure vacations.

The report also listed Beaver Street Brewing Co. as a top restaurant and hangout for locals.
