PHOENIX — Everyone likes to boast about their personal recipes, but a Phoenix woman has earned the ultimate right to do so after being named World Pasta Champion.

It wasn’t just bragging rights Suzanne Clark earned, though. She was awarded $10,000 at the World Food Championships in Las Vegas for besting all other competitors in the pasta category. Clark’s delectable entries were a signature dish, a seafood course and her take on the iconic macaroni and cheese.

The World Food Championships feature 400 amateur cooks and restaurateurs alike with category winners, such as Clark, as well as one overall champion who receives $100,000.

In a video Clark posted on Youtube, she described her near-win at last year’s competition, in which she said she missed World Pasta Champion “by a slim margin.”

This year, she said she’s coming back to win.

“I have been told I am the one to beat,” she said. “I do not plan to disappoint anybody.”

She lived up to those words on Saturday, when she was announced the World Pasta Champion.

Tuesday night, the judges tasted the best dishes in each category of pasta, barbecue, chili, burger, sandwich, recipe, dessert, seafood and bacon. They awarded San Diego’s Ricardo Heredia the 2014 World Food Champion title for his entries in the bacon category.

We want to hear from you.
