PHOENIX — Ski resorts in northern and eastern Arizona are planning their season openings, one set to go this weekend another considers the day after Thanksgiving.
Sunrise Park in Greer will open Saturday on a limited basis. Arizona Snowbowl, near Flagstaff, said it plans to open next week, thanks to a few storms and cold temperatures.
“The next four or five days will really be the factor to see if we can make that projected opening day of White Friday — Nov. 28,” Jason Stratton with the resort said. “So far, so good.”
Snowbowl makes its own snow, typically meaning it can open as long as temperatures stay low. Though the resort is close to laying out the frozen welcome mat, some runs may be limited.
Sunrise was originally scheduled to open Nov. 28. The resort can make its own snow. Two chairs will be operating this weekend.
