PHOENIX — Peoria authorities are on the lookout for a man who impersonated an officer and pulled over a woman Friday night.
Peoria police said the man stopped a woman who was driving near 99th Avenue and Thunderbird Road around 9 p.m. The man was driving in a white full-sized sedan and turned on a white flashing light when he pulled the 56-year-old woman over.
The woman said the impersonator approached her vehicle, displayed a badge and said he worked for the Peoria Police Department. The suspect said he was stopping her on suspicion of driving under the influence. Once she denied she had been drinking, the man let her go and returned to his vehicle, she said.
The Peoria PD said if anyone is ever concerned about the legitimacy of an officer, they can call the department’s non-emergency line at 623-773-8311.
