PHOENIX — One of the hardest moments for a soldier is the missing the birth of their child.
On Veterans Day, when we recognize the hard work and sacrifice of those that have served, are serving or will serve in our nation’s military, it’s also important we recognize this sacrifice as well.
A Tempe, Ariz. man was lucky enough to be home on leave Tuesday, where he was able to meet his newborn son.
Air Force Ssgt. Alfred Trevino was granted a temporary leave and arrived in the Valley earlier this week.
“It’s an amazing feeling to know you have the support of the community and your family,” Trevino said after a warm welcome at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.
His girlfriend, Mia, had gone through the pregnancy without Trevino, but was able to keep Trevino very much involved thanks to technology. The boy was born Aug. 14 and Trevino has already gotten used to the idea of being a father.
“It felt natural when I got to hold him, but getting to meet him was amazing,” he said.
