TEMPE — Google honored the city of Tempe on Tuesday.
Google has recognized Tempe as its 2014 eCity of Arizona. Google awards the city each year to the city in each state that has the strongest online business community.
Google’s Angie Welling said they did an extensive search of Arizona cities.
“The importance of the web in growing local businesses is critical,” said Welling. “So Google partnered with an independent research firm and looked at which cities and the businesses within them that are using the Internet right.”
Welling said that Tempe businesses are embracing the web to find new customers. She singled out one business, Brand-X T-shirts on Mill Avenue, for the way it uses its website.
“If you look at the website, you can get a feel for this location, you get a feel for the staff. You know who they are and what they’re doing,” Welling said. “You can shop for a t-shirt online, you can order the t-shirt online, you can do it all online.
Scottsdale was Google’s eCity for Arizona in 2013.
