PHOENIX — The City of Maricopa has a fake cop on its hands.
On Sept. 12, an alleged con artist pulled a woman over near Adams Way and Falcon Lane between 6:30 and 7 pm.
The man got out of his unmarked white car with flashing blue and red lights on the dashboard and walked over to the woman. He briefly talked to her before heading back to his car and taking off.
Maricopa Police Officer Ricardo Alvarado described the suspect as a white male in his early 30s and between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 in height with a medium build.”
Alvarado said the woman recalls the man wearing a black long-sleeve, button-down shirt with the word “Police” written on it in yellow block letters. She also said he was wearing Docker-style pants.
The man didn’t harm the woman during the traffic stop, but Alvarado said Maricopa police wants to make sure the man in question is a law enforcement person.
“It’s not uncommon for traffic stops to be made in our city by other jurisdictions, (such as) officers on their way home. We do have several other different jurisdictions that have officers that live within the city here,” he said.
The last time an incident was reported like this was January, he said.
