PHOENIX — The latest tropical storm to hit Arizona, Odile, is closing down on the Phoenix area.
It is forecast to hit sometime Wednesday, with the brunt of the storm coming Thursday along with the possibility of heavy flooding. Rain from Odile could continue to fall in the Valley until Friday. National Weather Service forecaster Dan Leins said there was potential for a repeat of last week’s record rainfall and flooding in the area caused by the remnants of Hurricane Norbert.
“No two weather systems are exactly alike but we’re going to see a similar amount of moisture across the area,” Leins said. “Whenever you have the abundant amount of moisture that we’re going to see the potential is there for widespread heavy rain and flooding.”
That storm sent water into more than 100 Mesa homes along with other locations across the Valley.
If your home is at risk of flooding, one of the best things you can do is use sandbags to block the water. Several Valley cities are offering sandbags or sand to help residents out. Below is a list of cities offering one of the two. Click on your city (or one nearby) and you will be linked to sandbag information.
