PHOENIX — Whether it’s because of similar needs or just keeping up with the neighbors, a new study by eBay shows just how drastically the buying patterns of each state differ.
According to the popular culture site Mashable, from 2013 to 2014, the online store analyzed the most popularly-purchased items and brands and then organized the results geographically.
Arizona purchased flowers more than any other type of good from eBay. Some might say this is because of the desert landscape, but a new survey shows many Arizonans are seeking a serious relationship — another potential use for the flora.
Meanwhile, Delaware’s top good for the past year was robotic vacuums and Colorado’s was hydroponic supplies for growing plants indoors, including marijuana. Hawaii was a large consumer of vitamins, while Tennessee’s most popular category was dental supplies.
Many states’ results actually defied their stereotypes. Florida, long known for being a popular retirement community, bought more smartphones and tablets than any other good. New York’s highest seller was firearms and related supplies, despite their strict gun laws.
