Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Thomas Peine tells the Arizona Daily Star (http://bit.ly/1vZoXOC) that the mother and son set out to hike from the top of Mount Lemmon to Catalina State Park using the Lemmon trail. Three hours into their trip, the mother became dehydrated and exhausted and could not complete the hike.
The Star reports that a call to 911 was placed around 3:20 p.m. to the Pima County Sheriff's Department and a rescue team was sent out.
The pair were airlifted off the mountain and flown to Catalina State Park where they were evaluated by Golder Ranch Fire.
The mother was treated for dehydration and was able to return home with her son.
