PHOENIX -- Olympic swimmer Amy Van Dyken-Rouen proudly announced through her personal Instagram account that her wheelchair has shipped, and she will be having her braces removed soon.
"I can't handle it! Such gr8 news. My wheel chair just shipped! AND my brace comes off 2day, or 2morrow!"
Her selfie, which shows her covering her eyes with excitement, has received hundreds of likes and comments from those who are following her journey.
Van Dyken-Rouen is currently on rehab in a Colorado hospital.
In June, she told USA Today she planned to "rock it out" in a purple wheelchair with hair to match.
The six-time Olympic gold medalist made national headlines after she suffered an accident in northern Arizona a couple months ago.She severed her spine in an all-terrain vehicle accident, and was airlifted to a Scottsdale hospital where she had surgery to stabilize her spine.
