KINGMAN, Ariz. -- A 50-year-old Kingman man who twice ran over his stepdaughter's boyfriend in front of the boyfriend's home has accepted a plea deal just days before his trial on charges of first-degree murder and other crimes.
Michael Anthony Rivera pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder in the death of 23-year-old Nicholas Gerenscer and to attempted murder of Gerenscer's father, who witnessed his son's November 2011 death.
The Kingman Daily Miner reported that there was bad blood between the families of Rivera and Gerenscer but that circumstances of what led to the killing remain in dispute.
Rivera told police the killing was an accident, but witnesses said Rivera had been driving up and down the block and that there was yelling and gestures by those involved.
