Slow burn: Phoenix hits 116 degrees

PHOENIX — Setting a mark for the date that no one could have wanted, the National Weather Service said Thursday’s high in Phoenix was 116 degrees.

That mark, taken at Sky Harbor Airport, bested the one set less than hour beforehand.

The day before it reached 114.
The hottest day ever in Phoenix was set in 1990, when it soared to 122 degrees.
See? It could be worse.
