NWS issues excessive heat watch for Phoenix

PHOENIX — Temperatures are on the rise in Arizona once again and this week’s excessive heat has the National Weather Service in Phoenix urging people to be careful.
Temperatures around the Valley are expected to reach nearly 110 degrees on Tuesday, but that’s just the start as meteorologist Valerie Meyers with the National Weather Service said that Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be even hotter.
“We’re looking at temperatures that are going to be in the 113- to 118-degree range,” she said.
The high-teen temperatures are expected to affect the lower desert areas of the state with the mid-teens in the Valley, Meyers said.
The forecast calls for a high of 113 for Wednesday and Thursday.
After a week or two of dryer weather, Meyers said monsoon moisture is starting to raise humidity levels again, thereby increasing the heat index.
“It’s definitely going to feel much more humid and much more muggy because the humidity level are going to increase a little,” she said. “We are getting monsoon moisture that’s working its way back into the state.”
The increased humidity brings with it a slightly higher chance of storms, but Meyers said those would likely be far east of the Valley.
