PHOENIX -- Ikea, the world's largest furniture retailer, is helping spread the word for animal adoption.

According to Mashable, Ikea's Tempe location is the first in the U.S. to join a new project that allows customers to adopt a dog while browsing display rooms.

This initiative, named "Home for Hope," is the result of a partnership between a Singapore-based IKEA with two animal shelters.

Various life-size cardboard cut-outs of dogs are set up in Ikea's display rooms to let customers imagine what their home could look like with a dog.

Each of these will have a QR code that shoppers can scan to learn more about the dogs displayed and then adopt that dog in the store.

The Ikea store in Tempe has already generated six adoptions through the Arizona Humane Society.
