PHOENIX -- A 72-year-old woman was in the hospital in critical condition after being attacked by five dogs at a Phoenix park.

Phoenix police said the incident occurred about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at Barrios Unidos Park near 15th and Mohave streets.

The victim had been collecting cans as she regularly does in the area.

A passer-by saw the pack of dogs attack the woman and called 911.

The woman sustained multiple, severe dog bites. Her name hasn't been released.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control officials said the five Rottweiler/pit bull mixes have since been euthanized at the request of their owner.

Authorities said none of the dogs appear to have been licensed and they all will be tested for rabies at a state lab this week.
