PAYSON, Ariz. -- Authorities say a man is in custody for allegedly stealing a police vehicle in Payson.

Payson police say 20-year-old Valentine Mazon LaBorin of Payson was arrested late Sunday west of Phoenix.

Police say the vehicle had been parked on a Payson street before it was discovered missing about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

An off-duty Glendale police officer saw the vehicle operating in a suspicious manner and notified law enforcement in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Peoria police, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and other agencies tried to stop the vehicle.

They eventually had to use stop sticks and LaBorin was arrested at the scene.

Police say no equipment was missing from the vehicle and the only damage it incurred was to the tires from the spiking.
