Arizona notches nearly 400 DUI arrests over Fourth of July weekend
PHOENIX -- Arizona's highway patrol officers, sheriff's deputies and other law enforcement officers arrested nearly 400 people on suspicion of driving under the influence over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
State officials said 389 arrests were made between Thursday and Saturday. That marks an increase of 28 DUI arrests over the previous year.
Most of the arrests stemmed from misdemeanor offenses, but some did involve repeat offenders and extreme DUI charges, in which blood alcohol concentrations are usually over 0.15.
The weekend crackdown across Arizona also netted more seat belt violations and drug arrests this year. But there were also more officers participating this Fourth of July.
