TUCSON, Ariz. -- Parts of southern Arizona are in for another dose of wet weather as monsoon season gets underway.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Tucson said the thunderstorms were off to an early start Sunday. The latest round of storms comes after the region was hit Saturday with heavy rain, hail and gusty winds.

More than 2 inches of rain were reported in the Catalina Mountains.

Crews with the Tucson Fire Department were also called out to rescue two motorists who were stranded on the top of a vehicle and surrounded by rushing water.

Crews were dispatched Saturday evening for another rescue near Prince and Romero streets. They could hear someone under the bridge yelling for help but were unable to spot anyone after more than two hours of searching.
