SHOW LOW, Ariz. -- Officials say crews have containment lines around most of a wildfire in Arizona's eastern White Mountains and that evacuees are being allowed to return home.

Officials say the evacuation order for the communities of Red Cabin Ranch, Whiting Homestead and Carlock Ranch would be lifted at 8 a.m. Thursday. Those areas have three dozen summer homes.

Fire officials said that containment the nearly 11-square-mile San Juan fire had expanded to 70 percent by Wednesday night, up from 15 percent earlier in the day.

The fire is located 18 miles southeast of Show Low.

Firefighters have completed burnout operations to deprive the fire of fuel and to keep it from spreading outside the planned containment lines. They continue to mop up all areas of the fire.
