MESA, Ariz. -- Maricopa County authorities have arrested a man accused of shooting his girlfriend to death in the desert northeast of Mesa.
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman Christopher Hegstrom said Matthew Borja, 21, was booked Thursday afternoon on one count each of first-degree premeditated murder, aggravated assault and unlawful imprisonment.
After an argument, Borja fired several shots at the 19-year-old woman.
Deputies responded after receiving a 911 call just before 6:30 a.m. about a shooting south of the Salt River.
The victim's name has not been released pending notification of family members.
