Mummified Tucson man likely died of electrocution

TUCSON, Ariz. -- An autopsy shows that a man whose mummified remains were found in a Tucson manhole last month likely died of electrocution.

The report Tuesday from the Pima County medical examiner's office says the dead man was holding a pair of bolt cutters in an underground high voltage utility access with cut copper wires near the remains.

It says the man died between 12 and 24 months before his remains were found May 19.

The body was discovered by Tucson Electric Power crews who opened the manhole to investigate a power fluctuation. The manhole was last opened in 2009.

Authorities say an identification card for a 51-year-old man was found with the remains.

However, the medical examiner's office is awaiting DNA test results to verify the name of the dead man.
