TEMPE, Ariz. -- Tempe police have identified a man arrested in a shooting that took place near Arizona State University.

KPHO-TV reports that 21-year-old Adolfo Jimenez has been booked into jail for Sunday's shooting and could face charges of aggravated assault and discharging a firearm within city limits.

Lt. Michael Pooley says officers responded to reports of shots fired around 3 a.m. near 9th Street and Mill Avenue.

A nearby resident then reported to police a man moaning in pain in his front yard.

Pooley says officers say the unidentified victim had suffered a single gunshot wound.

He remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told police that a fight broke out among several people and the victim allegedly punched a woman in the head before being shot by Jimenez.
