PHOENIX -- Arizona's unemployment rate dropped to 6.8 percent in May, down from 6.9 percent the month before.
State economists said Thursday that Arizona's jobless rate was 8 percent a year ago.
The national unemployment rate remained unchanged in May at 6.3 percent.
According to state economists, six of the 11 major sectors added jobs, one was flat and four reported losses over the month.
Arizona lost 15,000 nonfarm jobs in May along with 14,200 government jobs.
Manufacturing added 1,600 jobs while education and health services gained 800 jobs.
