PHOENIX -- Hoping to reduce distracted driving, Arizona transportation officials are promoting the state's 14 highway rest areas as safe places to make phone calls, send texts and check email while traveling.

According to the Department of Transportation, new Safe Phone Zone signs are going up in rest areas under a partnership with Geico and Infrastructure Corp. of America, the Tennessee-based company that maintains Arizona's rest areas.
