TEMPE, Ariz. -- Police say an 81-year-old Tempe woman has died after her vehicle collided with another at an intersection.

Sgt. Steve Carbajal said Saturday that Elfriede E. Cockrell was pronounced dead at a hospital following the Friday night collision.

Carbajal said Cockrell was driving on Southern Avenue near 48th Street around 9:15 p.m. and failed to stop for a red light.

Her Geo Metro struck a Chevrolet Suburban that was following a green light.

Carbajal said no occupants in the Chevrolet were injured.

Impairment is not believed to be a factor but the investigation is ongoing.
