Officials consider Grand Canyon north rim fire contained

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. -- A lightning-caused wildfire burning on the Grand Canyon's north rim is considered contained and no longer a threat to park resources.

Grand Canyon National Park officials said the nearly 5-square-mile Galahad Fire is not out but that fire managers are confident it'll stay west of a road on the Walla Valley Peninsula.

The fire is officially only 30 percent contained but park officials said the rest of the fire is naturally contained by the canyon rim. Previously burned areas have with little fuel left to burn.

Some crews and engines will continue to monitor the fire while others are being released so they're available for other fires as needed.
