PHOENIX — A woman on a river-rafting trip at the Grand Canyon died after suffering an apparent allergic reaction.
The National Park Service said Kathy Newman, 54, of Seattle, died Wednesday night. She was part of a group booked on a seven-day commercial trip on the Colorado River.
Witnesses said Newman became unconscious and others on the raft began CPR efforts and a satellite phone call was made for help. Arizona Department of Public Safety personnel responded.
An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the park service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
