PHOENIX -- Two people escaped a house fire in north Phoenix on Wednesday morning that also threatened neighboring homes.

Fire crew prevented the fire near Seventh Avenue and Union Hills Drive from spreading to other homes, but five pets died.

A Phoenix Fire Department spokesman said the fire started on the patio and most of the damage was to the back of the house and the yard. Lost in the blaze were a shed and a swing set.

No other details were immediately available.
