Motorcyclist who fled from police charged
FLORENCE, Ariz. -- Authorities say an Arizona City motorcyclist is facing charges after fleeing from a Pinal County Sheriff's deputy to avoid a speeding ticket.
Sheriff's officials say 29-year-old Raymond Joseph Higgs is jailed on suspicion of unlawful flight.
A deputy tried to stop a motorcyclist going 80 mph in a 50 mph zone outside the Casa Grande city limits on May 28.
The deputy activated his emergency lights, but the motorcycle accelerated to speeds in excess of 100 mph and weaved in and out of traffic to get away.
Authorities eventually identified the motorcyclist as Higgs. They say they found Higgs at his home last Saturday working on his motorcycle, which had been freshly painted.
Higgs told deputies that he fled because his motorcycle was unregistered and he didn't have insurance.
