PHOENIX -- A former wrestling coach at a Goodyear high school accused of sending sexual text messages to a student has pleaded guilty to child abuse with sexual intent.

Maricopa County prosecutors said 25-year-old Kyle Curtis Deberry entered his plea Monday.

He was scheduled to be sentenced July 8. Prosecutors said he could be facing a jail sentence.

Deberry originally was arrested by Goodyear police on Dec. 11 on suspicion of luring a minor for sexual exploitation and assault.

He coached at Desert Edge High School until August 2013 when school officials suspended him and reported him to police.

Authorities had been investigating the allegations against Deberry for the past several months.

Court documents showed Deberry sent sexually explicit text messages to a 16-year-old female student in April 2013.
